Duality, painted August 2021 is an ode to harmony and balance. The presence of contrasts, between the light and shade as well as the flowers and nocturnal creatures was intended to show to beauty of all life. The decision to paint a moth and a ball python was made in an effort to show creatures often viewed as dangerous, scary or 'pest' like. Placed among the flowers I aimed to display the intricate and delicate nature of all life, and attempted to show these creatures in a way they are not often viewed: as vulnerable. Like us all, there are depths within nature that are unexplored and unconsidered. I hope this piece is a reminder of what we do not know, or what we often forget. This piece is gouache on canvas. In order to maintain the texture and coating of the paint, it remains unfinished without varnish. Though the purchase of a frame is optional, it is recommended that this painting is framed behind glass in order to preserve the work. The frame in question is a matted open-door art display case similar to the one photographed. With the frame the product is sized 13x16.5inches. Without the frame the piece is 9x12inches.
